Certificate for World War II Bombers Photos From American Coins and Collectibles
Pair of photographic reprints depicting two historic World War II bombers, each autographed by the pilot that made them famous. The first depicts the flight crew of the “MEMPHIS BELLE" assembled under the nose of that iconic aircraft (the nose art, mission bombs, and aerial victories are visible), with each member identified in the blank area below. The signature of “Robert Morgan – Pilot” can be seen at the upper left, with a check added above his image. The Belle is credited with being the first bomber to complete 25 combat missions over Europe. The second photo is a color image of the “ENOLA GAY” sitting alone on Tinian. The signature of “Paul Tibbets, Pilot” and “6 AUG. 1945” can be seen on the white cloud at left. This aircraft dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 (hence the notation on the photo), with Tibbets as command pilot. The Morgan image measures approximately 11x15 inches, while the Tibbets photo is 8x11 inches. A few minor bends are noted for accuracy. These would look fantastic framed and displayed in an office or den. Both signers are now deceased, as are most of the men and women with whom they served. A great opportunity to honor our Greatest Generation.
