Certificate for an Excavation Recovery - AU Coin From American Coins and Collectibles
This interesting and historic coin was recovered in a land excavation, known as the Cerro Rico (Rich Mountain) Hoard. Struck in Bolivia (while under Spanish control) and dated 1753, this popular 8-reales coin was produced by hand on a large, roughly 91.7% silver blank (cob). The obverse features a representation of the Pillars of Hercules (Strait of Gibraltar), with the denomination and date at the center, while the reverse depicts the Cross of Jerusalem, with the castles of Castile and the lions of Leon in opposing quadrants. These coins circulated throughout the Caribbean and were regularly included as part of the treasure fleets sent yearly to Spain (they were also among the most prized items taken by the various pirates that preyed upon the fleets). This particular coin has been certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as “EXCAVATION RECOVERY – AU” (Almost Uncirculated) and comes housed in one of their custom, hard plastic holders. A fantastic opportunity to add one of these iconic coins to your collection.
